Sometimes the pace of living is intense, the famous « Subway – Work – Bed » forces us to relegate sleep to the last priority. However sleep is essential to keep our health capital.

A good night’s sleep promote certain functions of the human body such as immune enhancement, celle regeneration, storage, or hormone production.

Sleep is so beneficial that a Swedish study shows that it could be the remedial of our microbiota.

Nine healthy men, followed a test battery after a normal night (7 at 8h of sleep) and after two consecutive night with a partial sleep deprivation (4h max of sleep). The meal composition as weel as meal times were the same throughout the study. At the end, a decrease in insulin sensitivity of 20% was observed. Insulin is a necessary pancreatic hormone to reduce blood glucose. The study also showed an increase in the Firmicutes/Bacteriodetes ratio, which is associated with weight gain and obesity.

In short, that trial highlighed that a limiting sleep leads to a deterioration of the quality of the microbiota.

Microbiota takes care of you, in your turn to take care of him !
